There are so many reminders in the world of music that sometimes simplicity can’t be beat. You might write a song with multiple time signature changes, weaving in and out of Phrygian mode, and 12 minutes long. It’s a masterpiece, but the three minute, three chord tune that came to you in 15 minutes is actually the song that resonates most with your fans.
The same can be true for musical instruments. Four pickups, blend controls, and coil taps are fun, but sometimes a single pickup bass guitar, designed in 1951, is the perfect tool for the job at hand. My guess is Sting would agree!
And if you’re a fan of Sting or his tone, you should get in on this bass guitar giveaway from the Keeping the Blues Alive Foundation. Up for grabs is a Fender Sting Signature P-Bass, worth $1,199.
