Today’s guitar giveaway makes me feel kind of old. My very first job, when I was 17, was working in the guitar room at Herter Music Center in Saginaw, Michigan. The year was 1994, the 40th Anniversary of the Fender Stratocaster. I remember thinking their commemorative guitars were really cool because they has this sweet metal emblem on the headstock, and that the guitar hadn’t changed much in 40 years.
Twenty years later, the Strat is pretty much still the same! Another thing that’s the same is Fender’s desire to make the most of an anniversary year, as they’ve released a crap ton of 60th Strat models this year. The good people from Scottsdale have teamed up with Musician’s Friend to give away four of these models — one per week for four weeks. Up for grabs is a 1954 American Vintage Stratocaster ($2,449), an American Standard Stratocaster ($1,499), a Classic Player ’50s Stratocaster ($999), and a Squier Classic Vibe ’50s Stratocaster ($399).
